About Kali

My family and I moved to Rancho Santa Fe in 2011. My sons were 3 and 1. We now have a 5th grader, 2nd grader and a kindergartener at the Roger Rowe School. We fell in love with this historic community where children feel safe, secure and free. It is one of the few remaining pockets in California where children can attend a top performing public school, which should be cherished and not taken for granted.

I grew up in Montana, went on to study accounting and finance and received my California CPA license. My last professional position was with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Los Angeles office. My background, studies, certification and experience have given me the tools to be a fiscal advocate.

During the last 5 years I have volunteered my time and energy in the school’s classroom, MUSE and robotics programs. I have been actively involved in the Rancho Santa Fe Education Foundation and became a member of Scholar Circle three years ago. I started attending school board meetings over a year ago and I am the only candidate who has attended 17 of the last 22 board meetings. I am fully aware of the challenges that face this district.

As a member of the School Board, I will advocate to inform the community and solicit community input. I will work to be responsive to the values, beliefs and priorities of our community. I will focus on establishing a clear long-term vision that reflects consensus of our community and the administration.

My number one focus will be to make sure the Rancho Santa Fe School District has a balanced budget. I want the district to have impactful and disciplined spending. I will work proactively to be fiscally responsible by budgeting appropriately to stay in line with the school’s priorities and explaining any material variances from the budget openly to the community. I am not for additional taxes to support undisciplined spending, including the gym. As reported in the safety report at the school board meeting, the existing gym is safe and has a potential useful life of 20 additional years.

A safe school is a place where learning can occur in a welcoming environment free of intimidation, violence, and fear. I will advocate to build an inclusive school community that is global in perspective embracing transparency with impactful parent involvement . We are one community composed of many families representing a broad range of viewpoints, cultures and backgrounds. Every student should feel valued, included and respected.
